I have been a long time reader/fan of the incredible Jen Hatmaker. Her words to me have always been like a cheerleader from the pages. Every time I read a new book of hers I feel encouraged and inspired. Fierce, Free and Full of Fire takes it to another level.
Friends, hear me when I say this is a book you need to read. The gist of Fierce, Free and Full of Fire is becoming unapologetically you. It is all about bringing your whole, real self to the party. It is pulling up a seat to the table and inviting others to sit next to you. I have loved reading what Jen has learned about herself and how she is helping others find their place in the sun.
The book is broken up into sections that will really resonate with you. Jen says you will most likely reside with one section more than the rest. It is true. I was lost in the “What I Need” section for a long time, soaking it all in and re-reading. The chapter on “I need help” did a number on me. Through her authentic storytelling, vulnerability, and humor, Jen leads you through five self-reflective categories—who I am, what I need, what I want, what I believe, and how I connect—and helps you the reader:
- identify the exact ways they pretend, and learn instead how to be genuine at all times, in all ways, in all contexts;
- be empowered to say yes and no without guilt;
- learn to voice both their spiritual questions and convictions; and
- opt out of drama and into healthy adult relationships.
My favorite quote from the book at the moment is “Understanding, and embracing who you are, how we’ve been created, is the launching pad for living a fearlessly genuine life.” – Jen Hatmaker.
This book and Jens words are truly life-giving! I can’t tell you how freeing it is to hear someone give you permission to be your true self. There is real comradery in hearing Jen and many other women I’m sure, feel the same things you are feeling, and in some cases walk through the same experiences. As Jen puts it, we are called to be brave, to claim every gift, dream, quirk, and emotion inside, to stop performing and start living! Who doesn’t want that? I am here for this message and think you and every single woman you know needs to hear it… loud and clear!
