The Idea of you is a beautiful romance movie now streaming on Prime Video. Anne Hathaway is the leading actress as well as producer for the film. I had the privilege to hear from the stars of the film as well as the author of the book. We talk inspiration, character development, age gap and more!
Based on the acclaimed, contemporary love story of the same name, The Idea of You centers on Solène (Anne Hathaway), a 40-year-old single mom who begins an unexpected romance with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), the lead singer of August Moon, the hottest boy band on the planet. When Solène must step in to chaperone her teenage daughter’s trip to the Coachella Music Festival after her ex bails at the last minute, she has a chance encounter with Hayes and there is an instant, undeniable spark. As they begin a whirlwind romance, it isn’t long before Hayes’ superstar status poses unavoidable challenges to their relationship, and Solène soon discovers that life in the glare of his spotlight might be more than she bargained for.
Anne Hathaway, who stars as Solène and is also one of the film’s producers, says, “We wanted to make a movie that would make audiences feel wonderful by telling a story about people who are a pleasure to know and are fun to watch together. The truth that is emerging from this moment is that it’s not necessarily who they are or how they look or how they present or any of those things. It’s just about love.” These characters live different lives and there is an age gap, he’s 24 and she’s 40. “We’re used to seeing, when there’s an age gap, it’s usually the man who’s older,” notes Nicholas Galitzine, who stars as Hayes Campbell. “I think it’s refreshing to see it this way and very much a commentary on where we are and where we’re moving as a society; how we perceive love and the nuclear relationship, and that chemistry transcends age. People who are in two different places in their lives can actually have an incredible amount of commonality and be simpatico.”
