My kids love to read. My son was particularly excited to get his hands on the new book, A Drop of Hope by Author Keith Calabrese. Keith Calabrese is a screenwriter known for television films like My Favorite Wedding on the Hallmark channel. A Drop of Hope is his debut novel, and I think he has a great talent for young, inspirational fiction! Keith Calabrese wrote A Drop of Hope on a dare. “My daughter, who was seven at the time, thought I could write a decent kid’s book, and essentially dared me to give it a try.”
My son gets very invested into his books, and loves learning about new characters and their adventures. A Drop of Hope certainly held his interest. The book is a stunning heartfelt novel for kids, great for the 8-12 range. As a parent, I liked that my son got a better understanding of empathy and hope through reading this story.
A Drop of Hope tells the story of a magic well that provides a ray of hope to people living in a sad little Midwestern town. The story has all the elements kids like… magic, adventure, and characters you can see yourself in. I liked that the story is told through the eyes of many characters in the book. It really helps kids develop the value of seeing the opinion through others. I also loved how the story showcased the power of being kind, as well as being hopeful. No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. This is something I try to teach my kids, as well as show them on a daily basis. A Drop of Hope really echos that message. Having hope, evening in the midst of what seems like hopeless situations, can be a powerful thing. How we choose to react in tough situations can say so much. In a world where you can be anything, why not be kind and hopeful?
