Adventure Theatre MTC (ATMTC) launches its 2016 year with the musical James and the Giant Peach, based on the popular book by Roald Dahl (1916-1990) with a score written by Tony Award nominated duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dear Evan Hansen, A Christmas Story). Sponsored by Geico Insurance, James and the Giant Peach features a talented cast including Helen Hayes Award Nominated Jimmy Mavrikes (First Stage, Bat Boy) and the much-praised Tobias Young (Olney’s Guys and Dolls). ATMTC Academy Pre-Professional Company Members, Eli Schulman and Henry Neipoetter, share the role of James. Directed by Helen Hayes Award Recipient and Artistic Director of The Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, Michael Baron.
The show runs February 14- April 5, 2016. Tickets are $19.50 each and can be purchased online at www.adventuretheatre-mtc.org or by calling 301.634.2270.
When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion which results in a tremendous peach – and launches a journey of enormous proportions. This wickedly fun show features a tuneful score by the TONY Award-nominated team of Pasek and Paul and a curiously quirky book by Timothy Allen McDonald.
Michael J. Bobbitt, Artistic Director of Adventure Theatre MTC, says of the production, “From the terrific designs, by University of Maryland MFA Design Students and the Lyric Theatre’s costume designer, to the unbeatable score by Tony Award nominees, and Michael Baron’s creative genius surrounding the production, I’m confident this show will be a true treasure for all Washington, DC area families. We are also really grateful to our Corporate Sponsor, Geico Insurance, for helping make this quality of Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) production possible.”
James and the Giant Peach is recommended for all ages. Children under the age of 1 are free. All performances will take place at Adventure Theatre MTC, 7300 MacArthur Blvd, Glen Echo, MD, 20812 in the historic Glen Echo Park.
