My family and I visit Raleigh NC at least 3 times each year, if not more. I have found some really great family friendly hot spots in the surrounding area. If you are heading to Raleigh anytime soon, be sure to check out my top 5 picks for families.
This is a vibrant destination for hands-on, minds-on learning for children and families located in the heart of downtown Raleigh. I have three kids ages 4, 10, and almost 12, and all three of them LOVE coming to this museum. It really does have something for all ages. A few of our favorites are the Veterinary Clinic, Sports Area that includes hockey rink and a basketball hoop, and the Wood-shop section. This museum is huge, with so much to do, you can easily spend a full day here. *Tip- Pack a lunch and eat on the picnic tables outside the museum & bring your own water bottles.
This is a win-win for teens and adults! From mini golf to go-karts to bumper boats to laser tag, Fankie’s is full of fun! We love doing the mini golf during the cooler months. It is nice to take a break from the heat and do laser tag or arcade games inside during the really hot months. I would recommend this place for the older kids, 6 and up. There is food and snack available for purchase as well. All games are pay-as-you-go.
3. Hill Ridge Farm–
Located about 30 min outside of Raleigh, this is fun on the farm! General admission includes Swings & Slide, Splash Pad (In Season), Moon Bounce Giant Slide, Free Pumpkin (In Season), Jumping Pillow, and Farm Animal Corral. This is a great afternoon of fun, and my kids love it. Again, I would say good old fashioned fun for all ages!
4. Saddling Beach at Falls Lake–
Located just outside of Raleigh, this is so beautiful and makes for a fun day trip. You can bring food and drinks, or even grill if you please. With a gorgeous view, sandy beach area, bathrooms, and a playground nearby, this is a must during the spring and summer! It’s a cheap and relaxing place to set up camp for the day. Plus, it is only $6 per car… and did I mention the views are priceless?
5. Raleigh Road Outdoor Theater–
This is such a fun, nostalgic family activity. This Drive-In plays new releases and sometimes even double features. You can get all of your snacks at the concession booth, pull your car in, lay down some blankets and enjoy! Check the listings before you go to see if a family friendly movie is showing. Sometimes they offer huge discounts via Groupon. So check before you go! *Tip- bring lawn chairs for anyone who might not want to lay in the back of the van for 2 hrs 🙂
