My favorite movie of the year so far is without a doubt The Little Mermaid! I am all about appreciating the classics but something about the live action The Little Mermaid was even more magical to me. Maybe it was the angelic voice of Halle Bailey, or maybe the undeniable chemistry between Ariel and Eric, whatever it is made me fall even more head over heels with this story. The Little Mermaid is the best live action yet from Walt Disney Studios!
“The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy. Run time of 2hrs and 15 min.
The music is mesmerizing and the dazzling display of underwater life is simple gorgeous. I teared up many times as Ariel overcame her struggles and swam after her independence. This movie added so much depth for these characters I already hold dear to my heart. I enjoyed the deeper lookin into Prince Eric and his family. I loved the extra silly scuttle, and the loyal flounder made me want to jump through the screen and hold him.

These live action versions gave me actual chills in the theater! Well done!
Halle Bailey is a strong, beautiful and perfect character cast to bring Ariel to life on the big screen! I am so happy to see the diversity and representation in this film. The new songs add depth and relatability to the characters. I was in awe of “Wild Uncharted Waters” and the “Part of Your World” Reprise. My heart could barley take it. This movie truly made me fall in love with the cast. Lin-Manuel Miranda did a fantastic job at creating Disney magic both new and familiar. We have seen it 3 times in theatres now. I am so happy that Ariel and her story gets to be a part of this live action world!
