Drive safe! We have all said it to company leaving the house, family members on their way out the door. Driving safe means paying attending to the road and those around you. Don’t be distracted. Distracted driving is a huge issue and we need to put a stop to it. This includes the all encompassing cell phone. It is time to hang up on distracted driving.
Join me, along with Washington Redskins Quarterback, Kirk Cousins as we pledge to keep our phones down while driving. Take the Phones Down Touchdown pledge and share that you are committed to not being distracted with your phone while driving.
Did you know that if you take just five seconds to read a text while driving at the average speed limit of 55 mph, you could travel the length of a football field without looking at the road? That is startling. It only takes seconds of looking away at your phone for something to go wrong while driving. More than 2.5 million people are involved in road accidents each year. 1.6 million of these accidents involve a cell phone. Why take that chance? As a mom who almost always has at least one child in the car, I am not only endangering myself, but those around me and in the car with me. Texting, Facebook, Twiiter, it can all wait. Nothing is more important than your safety while driving. I can not tell you how many times I have passed a car who was swerving, cut me off, or stopped way too long at a green light. When I go to pass them I see a head down looking at a phone. Distracted driving is dangerous.
Check out the fact sheet below and help tackle the nation’s texting problem.
