Cirque du Soliel’s LUZIA is an mesmerizing journey into Mexican culture, and this is a MUST see show! The imaginative and visually-stunning production LUZIA is here in the DC area through June 17, 2018. You can’t miss the white-and-gold Big Top at Tysons II.
As you enter the box office area you are immediately greeted with Mexican decor and flair at every corner. The decor and even souvenirs are so neat and unique to the Mexican culture LUZIA celebrates!
LUZIA – A waking dream of Mexico takes audiences on a surrealistic journey though an imaginary Mexico – a sumptuous world suspended somewhere between dreams and reality. Smoothly passing from an old movie set to the ocean to a smoky dance hall or an arid desert. I have had the pleasure of seeing many Cirque du Soleil shows, and LUZIA is certainly one of my favorites. The show opens with a beautiful butterfly and horse that take us on a journey through Mexico. The stage literally transforms from scene to scene to bring the tradition and modernity of Mexico to the audience. I love how LUIZA tells a story with such imagery, music, and of course the amazingly talented acts!
Cyr Wheel artists perform rolling and spinning under the rain, while an aerialist suspended from a Trapeze flies and twirls through pouring showers. Hoop Diving is taken onto gigantic treadmills, expanding exponentially the speed and amount of daring leaps executed. Jaw-dropping highlights include a male contortionist skillfully twisting his body in the world’s most unimaginable positions, a powerful Aerial Straps specialist defying the laws of gravity at the center of a cenote (natural sinkhole), and two football (soccer) freestylers deftly mixing street dance with mind-blowing ball manipulations.
My kids were literally in awe of this performance, as was I! To see the pouring rain on the acts added an entirely different feel to the show. It was breath taking! Our favorites were the Hoop Divers, and the Trapeze artists! Such incredible acts! Of course my kids really loved the clown. It is amazing how much can be communicated with gestures and props alone. As expected, Cirque du Soleil’s LUZIA was one fantastic show!
There was never a moment you were not left entranced. My kids are 6, 11, and 13, and they were all very interested in the entire performance. LUZIA makes for a really fun family night out, girls night, or even a date night! I suggest you arrive early, grab a drink and snack, and enjoy the beautiful lobby area.
