Get ready to embark on a wild adventure and a beautiful tale of friendship and perseverance. Following along with Elmer as he discovers a mysterious place and some ferocious beasts in My Father’s Dragon, now streaming on Netflix! I got to chat with the voice talent of Elmer and the Director about this story.
About the Movie
From five-time Academy Award®-nominated animation studio Cartoon Saloon (The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea, Wolfwalkers) and Academy Award®-nominated director Nora Twomey (The Breadwinner), comes an exquisite film inspired by the Newbery-honored children’s book from author Ruth Stiles Gannett. Struggling to cope after a move to the city with his mother, Elmer runs away in search of Wild Island and a young dragon who waits to be rescued. Elmer’s adventures introduce him to ferocious beasts, a mysterious island and the friendship of a lifetime.
Interview with Jacob Trembley & Nora Twomey
I think this movie did a great job bringing this classic story book to life. Kids will relate to Elmer as he processes these big feelings and finds new friendships. I love the animation style of Cartoon Saloon and think it suits this story well. As a mother, seeing a story share a mothers love and devotion even through hard times is moving. The Director captured the fear, uncertainty and turmoil Elmer is feeling in a beautiful way. Be sure to watch My Fathers Dragon, now streaming on Netflix.
