Disney On Ice has become one of our family’s favorite events to attend together over the years. I have been going since my kids were 2 and 4 and now they are teenagers! Nothing beats singing along to your favorite Disney songs and watching them be performed in high energy numbers on ice, it is magical! We are excited to attend this years show, Disney On Ice Presents Let’s Dance! The all-star cast includes fan-favorite stories from Frozen 2, Wish, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid and Moana. The only place you can catch multiple characters from Disney’s newest film, Wish!!
About the Show
Interview with Performer Abigail Samuels
I had the opportunity to interview one of the performers, the very talented Abigail Samuels. Abigail has been skating for 19 years and loves touring with Disney On Ice! She is from Cape Town, South Africa and both her and her brother are professional skaters with Disney On Ice!
What age did you start skating and why?
Age 3. For fun at first then she enjoyed it so much I started competing
What is your favorite memory on or off the ice?
When she landed her very first triple jump.
What do you like to do when you are off the ice?
Read, listen to music and hang out with friends
What goes into learning a new show like Let’s Dance?
Rehearsals are 3 months long before the show begins. These are full days of learning the choreography, day after day on and off of the ice.
What is a day in the life like of a professional skater on tour?
Abigail likes to sleep for as long as she can. I think I would too. Followed by breakfast, getting on the bus and going to the arena. Then it is time for hair and makeup. Now it is time for notes from the chorogerpayer or manager. Warm ups and show time. There can be up to 3 shows per day sometimes! Talk about stamina!
What do you enjoy most about the job?
She loves to explore new places. Currently Abigail has been experiencing the beauty and fun that DC and VA have to offer.
Favorite Routine from the current show?
Abigail loves the Wish Reprise. She says it is such a beautiful song and moving moment on the ice.
Favorite Costume from the Current Show?
Opening number costumes! She says they are so fun and creative!
Favorite Disney Character?
Phil from Hercules. He is so motivational! Abigail feels like if Phil were her life coach she could accomplish anything! Hercules happens to be her favorite Disney movie.
