My family and I visited Kings Dominion on their 50th anniversary and had the best day! We have being going to Kings Dominion since our kids were babies. We love visiting this park because it offers something for everyone…big thrills, fun family rides, waterpark, good eats and much more! Here are 5 reasons you need to visit Kings Dominion this summer!
1. Celebrate the 50th Anniversary
In 2025, Kings Dominion marks its 50th anniversary with a season-long celebration called “A Golden Summerbration,” running from May 31 to August 3. Families can enjoy new live shows, including two productions in the Kings Dominion Theater, and the return of the beloved singing mushrooms with fresh tunes. The festivities also feature themed food, beverages, and a lively street party with music and dancing along the midways . You must try the birthday funnel cake, it was delicious!
2. Experience the Record-Breaking Rapterra Coaster
Thrill-seeking families will be excited about Rapterra, the world’s tallest and longest launched wing roller coaster, debuting in 2025. Standing at 145 feet tall and stretching 3,086 feet, Rapterra accelerates riders from 0 to 65 mph in just four seconds. With three inversions and a unique “raptor roll,” this ride offers an exhilarating experience for those meeting the 48-inch height requirement. My family rode this and they said it was their favorite. The ride was maximum thrill level, very smooth, and a unique track. A ton of fun!
3. Enjoy Family-Friendly Rides and Attractions
Kings Dominion caters to families with children of all ages. Planet Snoopy, the park’s dedicated kids’ area, features gentle rides like the Woodstock Express—a classic wooden coaster suitable for younger guests. We spent the whole day here sometimes when my kids were little. Additionally, the park offers a variety of family rides and attractions that ensure fun for everyone like the swings, ferris wheel, bumper cars and more.
4. Cool Off at Soak City Water Park
Included with park admission, Soak City is a 20-acre water park perfect for beating the summer heat. Families can relax in the lazy river, enjoy the wave pool, or let the kids play in areas like Lighthouse Landing and Sand Dune Lagoon. With attractions suitable for all ages, it’s a refreshing complement to the park’s thrill rides.
5. Live Entertainment and Seasonal Events
Beyond rides, Kings Dominion offers a robust lineup of live entertainment and seasonal events. From interactive shows to themed festivals, there’s always something happening in the park to captivate guests. These events provide families with opportunities to create lasting memories together. We love to stop and enjoy a show or live entertainment. Character meet and greets are always a fun time too!
With its blend of new attractions, family-friendly rides, and engaging entertainment, Kings Dominion in 2025 promises a summer full of fun and excitement for families.
