Why Families Should Watch Finding ‘Ohana
A summer in rural O‘ahu takes an exciting turn for two Brooklyn-raised siblings when a journal pointing to long-lost treasure sets them on an epic adventure with new friends, and leads them to reconnect with their Hawaiian heritage.
As a parent, and someone close with their family, this movie was so touching to me. When speaking with Director, Jude Weng, she mentioned how this movie serves as a great reminder that it is never too late to learn about your heritage or family. It’s never too late to reconnect. That is so moving and inspiring. Especially during the time we are in. We have more time than ever and more ways than ever to connect with each other, learn new things, or re-visit an old hobby. Ohana mean family and to me, family means everything.
In the midst of the heartfelt moments there are plenty of action and laugh out loud moments. I love the Goonies vibe! You will even hear a “Hey you guys!” Screenwriter Christina Strain loved the Goonies as a kid and made this movie with her young adventure loving self in mind. Finding ‘Ohana is like the Goonies meets Indiana Jones with a whole lot of heart. This is one the whole family will enjoy watching together.
Finding ‘Ohana is now streaming on Netflix!
