There is so much family fun to be had at the Gaylord National Resort! My family spent a full day enjoying all of the 2019 holiday festivities, and I wanted to share our favorites with you!
Christmas On The Potomac Family Favorites
ICE!
This might be my favorite ICE! experience yet! I love How The Grinch Stole Christmas, and this year’s theme takes you right inside this beloved story. It is so incredible to see the story book and movie scenes made out of ice! Did you know there is more than 2 Million pounds of ice used to create ICE! featuring Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas? They use 6000 ice blocks to create the magical scenes we see. It really is breathtaking. I loved seeing the Grinch carve the roast beast with the Whos at the end. Be sure to bundle up so you can enjoy all of the sights and sounds of ICE!
Christmas Village
The Christmas Village is as fun as it sounds. There are fun decorations everywhere, goodies for purchase, you can see Santa, and even go tubing! Yes, new this year is the Reindeer Rush Tubing. Feel the rush as you slide down the Christmas Village’s NEW Reindeer Rush Ice Tubing hill. The 2 story tall, four-lane hill offers all the fun of sledding with the added speed of ice. This goes pretty fast and even my big kids liked the rush! Another favorite activity in this area is the Gingerbread decorating. You can pick a variety of options and it’s a fun thing to do together.
Winter Square
Grab a drink, skate, or warm up by the heaters and enjoy the view! Holiday cocktails shine at the new Tinsel Tavern tacky Christmas bar in Winter Square, and throughout the resort. Four seasonal libations promise to keep spirits bright. You can also grab a hot chocolate here too! I loved the fun decorations and seasonal offerings. The ice skating was a huge hit with our family. It is pretty and festive inside, and covered by a tent so it never gets too cold. I loved skating to my favorite holiday hits!
Workshop Wednesdays
Beginning in December Workshop Wednesday will feature something new guests won’t want to miss. The workshops will be held on Dec, 11 and 18 from 4-8 p.m. Activities vary each Wednesday but guests can expect fun, festive craft nights and special family friendly events
Examples of what to expect – activities are one event per Wednesday
- Ooey Gooey Grinch Slime
- Winter Mint Body Scrub
- Medieval Times will join the party with a Knight performance, a “knighting” ceremony for the kids and more!
We got to preview this event and made the slime and body scrub. My kids love to be hands on, so they thought this was the best thing ever! It was easy enough for them to do by themselves, and interesting enough for them to want to do more! Fun and creative activities.
The Grinch’s Wonderful Awful Idea Scavenger Hunt
Follow the Grinch as he attempts to stop Christmas by stealing all the presents. Hopefully, the scavenger hunters can solve the clues and puzzles along the way to help the Grinch have a change of heart. Solve all of the clues and win a prize. My kids loved doing this because you got to go all over the hotel seeing the beautiful christmas decor. It was fun to do as a family, and they have the cutest plush Grinch key chains as a prize! My kids put it on their backpacks at home the next day.
