Recently, my family and I trekked up to Glen Echo Park to see a show at the Adventure Theatre MTC. My family loves live theatre, so we rarely pass on an opportunity to see a live show! Little did we know that this would blow us away, and leave us wanting more!
The Adventure Theatre MTC is showing James and The Giant Peach now through April 5, 2016. When we arrived at this cute little theatre in the park, I really had no idea what to expect. I expected the show to be good, but it was better than good… it was AMAZING! All three of my kids were intently watching the story unfold, laughing, singing along, and holding out hope for James and his friends.
When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion which results in a tremendous peach – and launches a journey of enormous proportions. This wickedly fun show features a tuneful score by the TONY Award-nominated team of Pasek and Paul and a curiously quirky book by Timothy Allen McDonald. Michael J. Bobbitt, Artistic Director of Adventure Theatre MTC, says of the production, “From the terrific designs, by University of Maryland MFA Design Students and the Lyric Theatre’s costume designer, to the unbeatable score by Tony Award nominees, and Michael Baron’s creative genius surrounding the production, I’m confident this show will be a true treasure for all Washington, DC area families.
The cast is only 9 people, yet each time they sing as an ensemble you would think it was a cast of 30! Each actor and actress really brought their character to life and brought the audience closer to the story. The set itself is on a smaller stage, but you do not notice at all. You feel like you are there, in the Giant Peach! The way the cast brings this story to life is remarkable… such talent! The music, the acting, the set – it was such a well done show! Needless to say, I was left wanting an encore!
James and the Giant Peach is recommended for all ages. Children under the age of 1 are free. All performances will take place at Adventure Theatre MTC, 7300 MacArthur Blvd, Glen Echo, MD, 20812 in the historic Glen Echo Park. Tickets are $19.50 each and can be purchased online at www.adventuretheatre-mtc.org or by calling 301.634.2270.
If you are thinking about going, just go! It is fun for the whole family and you will likely be visiting the Adventure Theatre MTC again to see another great show!
I was provided with complimentary tickets to this show. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.
