Interview with Disney On Ice performer, Gary Tsai
Meet Gary Tsai, a Disney On Ice performer bringing your favorite characters to life on the ice! Gary is in his 10th year of skating with Disney On Ice and is loving his journey! Born in British Colombia, Gary grew up on skates. I had the privilege of talking to Gary ahead of his shows in the DC area. Checkout what he had to say about his love for Disney On Ice, his favorite Disney character and more!
When did you begin skating?
I started skating at five, doing both figure skating and hockey until 13, when I focused fully on figure skating and began to compete in Canada.
Favorite Moment from the show?
I’m a bit biased—Aladdin and Jasmine have always been my favorites, but the Moana segment is amazing too. We have Moana, Maui, and even a brand-new appearance of Moni, the humble historian.
What do you enjoy about being apart of this magical company?
Even though I didn’t make it to the Olympics, performing with Disney lets me keep skating, entertain audiences, and be part of a huge “family” of cast members, creating lifelong friendships. Traveling with the show is amazing, you meet new people, experience different cultures, and just have fun while exploring each city you visit.
What has been your toughest challenge during your performance career?
Building up the confidence I have now.
Who are your role models? My Mom.
What do you enjoy about performing? Just being able to bring joy to families all over.
Favorite disney character? Aladdin
What advice would you give to to aspiring performers?
Don’t give up on your dreams. Performing is hard, but stay positive, keep an open mind, take advice, and remember why you started. Enjoy the process.
