Have you or someone you know been affected by cancer? Unfortunately, the chances of that are very high. I have seen loved ones battle cancer and win, and I have seen loved ones battle cancer and lose. This is very close to my heart, experiencing both celebration and loss. I can say one thing for sure, throughout the journey, love and support means everything to someone battling this terrible disease. I know it may seem hard to think about how to care or bless someone going through this. I can tell you that your support and gestures of kindness go farther and deeper than you will ever know. I have some thoughtful and practical ways you can do this. I was privileged to participate in a Spread Kindness To Cancer Patients Program, and I am happy to share that you too, can join in!
This program is sponsored by the Environmental Litigation Group, and it is a small attempt to put a smile on the faces of people who are battling cancer. The ELG provides essential legal representation for people who have been exposed to asbestos and other toxins in an occupational or environmental setting and obtain maximum recovery for their injuries.
You can participate in this campaign by creating a gift basket that will support and encourage cancer patients by helping when they need it the most. When they are struck with cancer they lose income, the ability to cook and clean, and any kind of help will be welcomed and much needed for them. Be kind and bring a smile on their face. Bringing them a meal they cannot prepare anymore means so much for them and their families. All you need to do is create a care basket for a cancer patient, and then deliver it! Simple, right? The most important gift items you can include in your basket are food items. Cancer fighting foods and a good diet is what is most important for them. You can prepare a meal by researching and using this food list. You can put any items you want in your basket, but make sure that it’s something they can use.
This is what I included in my basket-
- A cozy housecoat
- A plush banket
- A journel
- An encouragement book for cancer
- Lavender essential oil
- Green Tea
- Honey
- Lavender calming lotion
- Organic rose face mask
- Lavender candles
- Organic green tea lip balm
- A coffee mug
- Sugar free candy
- Organic Nuts
- Heating pad
In addition to some items to help patients feel more comfortable, I also included a basket of fresh organic fruit, and ingredents to prepare a healthy meal including fish, broccoli, and whole grain rice.
I decided to deliver my basket to a woman I know who does not have many family members around. She was so appreciative. I not only gave her a physical gift, but an emotional one too. Sometimes your time is the gift that is wanted most. I would also encourage you to write an inspirational note or message to go along with this gift. It always means a lot when someone takes time out of their day to completely set everything else aside for YOU! Help cancer patients find comfort and strength during this difficult process. I would love to hear about your experience in spreading kindness to cancer patients. Please let me know if you have done something similar, plan to do something soon, or even if you’ve been on the receiving end. Let’s spread kindness and bring happiness to someone who could really use it!
