There is something so magical to me whenever I see a book I have read come to life on the big screen. You imagine the scenes in your head, voices, and expressions. What takes the cake is when this live version exceeds your expectations. That is what happened when Disney met Spielberg… pure magic!
The BFG is one of my favorite childhood books. I love Roald Dahl and his story telling. As a mom, I love re-living those favorite adventures of mine through my kids. They have also read the BFG and couldn’t wait to see it brought to life.
The talents of three of the world’s greatest storytellers – Roald Dahl, Walt Disney and Steven Spielberg –
finally unite to bring Dahl’s beloved classic, The BFG, to life. Directed by Spielberg, Disney’s “The BFG” tells the imaginative story of a young girl and the Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country. The BFG, as big as he may seem to Sophie, is actually the runt of his giant clan. Overcoming bullies, fears, and being brave, together this pair saves the day from mean, not-so-friendly giants. I loved seeing how this friendship formed and how they brought out the best in each other. The BFG also has a strong message when it comes to bullying and standing up for yourself. A timeless lesson that no matter your size or stature, we all deserve respect and kindness in this world.
Directed by three-time Academy Award® winner Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by Melissa Mathieson, based on the best-selling novel by Roald Dahl, The BFG stars three-time Tony Award® and two-time Olivier Award winner Mark Rylance, and newcomer Ruby Barnhill. A perfectly casted film, in my opinion! It definitely does not disappoint. Plus, the visual beauty in this film is also a reason to see it in the theaters. Experience Giant Country in 3D… you will be glad you did!
