If you have never been to the Sight & Sound Theater, it is a must when traveling through Lancaster, PA. My family and I had the privilege of attending a showing of Jonah, and it was amazing!
First of all, a trip to this magnificent theater is such a sight to see! The theater is so incredibly beautiful on the inside and out. We spent a lot of time walking around and enjoying the beauty of it all. There is a cafe area that serves drinks and snacks that you are allowed to bring into the theater as well. We purchased their signature snack, roasted cinnamon almonds, and enjoyed walking the theater as we waited for the show to start.
Now for the show itself. The Sight & Sound Theater truly does bring the Bible to life with a talented cast, lights, special effects, live animals and more. Seeing Jonah, we truly felt like we were in the middle of it all! Sight & Sound’s unique theater experience begins with a 2,000 seat auditorium, a 300-ft stage that surrounds the audience on three sides, state-of-the-art technology and live animals. It was breathtaking to see the whale swim and swallow Jonah whole. The effects were amazing. It was also very interesting to ponder what Jonah and his family may have thought of the situation. The show helped broaden my perspective of this story and provided a deeper understanding. Bravo to the cast of Jonah and the entire production crew!
Sight & Sound’s entertainment is designed to be universally appealing—regardless of age, life experience or previous exposure to the Bible. This could not be more true. My kids ages 12, 10 , and 5 all enjoyed the show and all have a different level of understanding of it. It was appealing and easy to follow for all ages. The cast and production elements make it engaging and thrilling! As a family-owned, family-led company, it is their desire is to see families and friends come together for a shared experience that leaves them with a lifetime memory. This makes for a wonderful experience, and helps families understand the stories of the Bible even more so. It helps start conversations and create special memories. I would recommend this show to families with children ages 3 and up. If they can sit still through a movie, then they can sit for the duration of the show. I also think every seat in the house is a good seat. With the theater all around you, you really are in the heart of the show.
