Polar Express Movie Night

The Polar Express is one of my favorite Christmas stories turned movies. I love the message it sends to kids and kids alike, seeing is not believing. The bell still rings for those who believe! We have a annual movie watching and story reading session each Christmas season in our home. My kids, and even my kids friends look forward to this special tradition. I wanted to share with you a few fun ideas to help you have a Polar Express movie night in your home!

Every party needs some fun party supplies and themed decor right? Oriental Trading has an awesome variety of items that can be used for taking your movie night to the next level. Paper products, silver bells, trains, candy canes, mugs, serving trays, and so much more!

In addition to popcorn, we also have Christmas cookies and a hot chocolate bar complete with all of the fixings. The kids go crazy over topping their hot chocolate, and it is one of their favorite parts of the movie when all of the kids on the train are served with this warm chocolatey goodness!

DIY Hot Chocolate Bar

  • Toppings completely vary depending on what your family likes
  • A few toppings we like are Rolo’s, M&M’s, peppermint shavings, chocolate covered spoons, & marshmallows
  • Individual bowls for toppings,
  • Hot Coco Lollipops
  • Spoons, and fun mugs like these
  • Hot chocolate mix
  • A cute sign – get one here and here

Before the night begins, each child must find their golden ticket and get in their pjs. We read the book first to help set the stage. Then everyone can come and get their snacks and create their hot chocolate masterpieces! As we sit down to watch the movie, I give them all their own silver bell to ring. Sometimes I save this for that part of the movie when Santa gives out the silver bell, but that is up to you.

I love seeing the kids enjoy their treats and hear the special message that Santa gives to the children. Our Polar Express movie night was made extra magical this year thanks to Oriental Trading!
