It is back to school time here in Virginia. The kids are wide eyed, and ready for the new school year. Every year we do our best to be prepared and get organized ahead of time! With that, my kids love to have their own station for doing homework. I have some great ways to make DIY homework stations for your kids, as well as my best and most useful homework tips for kids and parents! Watch my Good Morning Washington Back to School feature!
Homework stations can be anything you and your child think is necessarily, or helpful for homework time. I like to use these stations because it keeps the supplies all in one place, and it is completely customizable for your child’s grade/age. You can keep these up and only bring out during homework time, or keep in a dedicated place like the family desk, or your child’s room.
Our Homework Stations
This is a very basic station made for elementary kids. With all the basic supplies, I used a shower caddy to hold them in. You can get these al Hobby Lobby and Michales.
This station is for my middle school daughter. I used a round tray from Target as the base, and went to Hobby Lobby for the decorative organizer, and fun supplies. It has the basics plus a few fun items like a candle, makers, & post it notes.
This is a station made for older teens. This one also has the basic supplies, but a few extras. I used a flower charger for the base and mason jars to organize the supplies. I love the encouraging note stand that can be changes out, and the chalk board clips. Great for busy teens who need quick access to supplies, and still totally customizable!
What To Include In A Homework Station
Pens, pencils, paper, scissors, notebook, folder, glue, and any other traditional school supplies. As my kids got older, and had a little more freedom when it comes to homework, I started to include fun supplies like scented makers, fun notepads, colored pens and so on. I also include items that help motivate and focus my kids such as gum, mints, & fidget cubes. Start with the basics and your station can grow/change with your child. All three of my kids are in different stages and learn differently. Each of their stations are unique!
